Meet Kellee Maize

Meet Kellee Maize. An independent musician out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who sings and raps about spirituality, feminism, and social and political issues.

As an independent artist, Kellee Maize was skeptical about giving her music away for free, but learned that the exposure you get from FMA and other outlets has catapulted her career. Under Creative Commons licenses, her 6 albums has millions of listens, a Toyota sponsorship deal, TV appearances on Adult Swim, press coverage in the likes of XXL Magazine, and a Bonnaroo Music Festival performance under her belt.

Kellee has spent the last few years focusing on her children and family, but has plans to get back into the studio soon.

FMA Team

Hip-hop is and was born out of a need for a voice and for sharing, both as a social advocacy tool, and it just lets you relax, have fun, and forget what we’re facing every day. Hip-hop was free in the beginning, and there are still free mixtapes every single day from the biggest artists in the world. It’s part of the culture. It makes a lot of sense for hip-hop artists to look into CC — it holds a foundational interest in sharing ideas, in music, and in power.

Mainstream music is not conscious content. So we’re sharing how we’re doing it so other conscious artists, hopefully other women, can learn about it, and we can pass along the torch to the next generation of conscious art. In hip-hop, women are pitted against each other. It’s not about collaboration or unity, and those things are important for music to grow. Opening up to these ideas will be challenging, but when we look at fields that are built on sharing such as science, things advance, and technology advances, because sharing advances.

My music over the past 10 years embodies this, and I’m sharing my remix album because it’s a collection of songs across all previous 6 albums of mine that J. Glaze Productions was inspired to remix. - Kellee Maize

The Remixes - Released 2015

In total, many of these songs on this remix album ended up being licensed by Samsung, Toyota, Wonderboom, GoPRO, CrepeProtect, 24 Hour Fitness & more. I ended up remixing my song; In Tune twice because of how many times I kept seeing it pop up in different brand commercials on Tik Tok and Instagram. If you have a big collection of songs and want to re-invigorate some life into them, I highly recommend getting them remixed by an experienced producer. - Kellee Maize
