Meet Matt Oakley

I have been creating and sharing music on the FMA in a number of different guises since 2014.

My greatest hits so far have been my series of imaginary 1980s TV themes which have been widely used in YouTube videos as well as adverts, video games, as a soundtrack to a high-school reunion slide show and even, in the case of Angel Academy, featured in an Iranian movie. - Matt Oakley

80s TV #1 - Released 2014
For the TV themes from my imaginary 80's album that includes 14 tracks, I used a Roland Juno G synth and record all parts live using the built-in sequencer. There is then a bit of quantizing. I added effects and master using my Zoom R16 digital 16-Track and transport to my Mac.

On this album is Walter's Wonderland. A theme park set comedy. The Nelson family win first prize in an unlikely competition; to move into 'Walter's Wonderland' – a dilapidated but still magical theme park owned by eccentric recluse Walter Finkelstein. The family discover the history and secrets of the park and its owner, as they also learn a few life lessons about themselves.

When you explore this album, you will also meet Delivery Guy, who is Guy Masters. He gets a job as the first male obstetrician at New York's Mount Sinai hospital. Shunned by his male colleagues and initially viewed with suspicion by the other departmental staff (all female), he struggles to deliver excellent patient service as well as babies. SciFI Soundtrack Kit - Released 2021
I also produced soundtracks, such as the tracks in SciFi Soundtrack Kit which are ready-made future sounds for all your SciFi music needs, like Mercury Ascendant.

In other soundtrack genres, I shared tracks for Halloween and more horror atmosphere, such as CARNIVAL OF TEARS and THEY CRAWL, which are part of my Horror Movie Soundtrack #1 album. - Matt Oakley

Next to soundtracks, I share instrumental music, both acoustic and electronic, which you can find on Streetwise Hercules such as Bright Skies of Silver and On a Tokyo Train. - Matt Oakley

Midnight Stories - Released 2022
My latest release on FMA is Midnight Stories which are tracks in the genres of soundtrack, electroacoustic and pop such as Here Comes the Ice.

Up until now, though, I have only sporadically released solo material, something I intend to focus on much more going forward.

Next to my own releases, I write and record as Nutmeg and Dr Sparkles, alongside Simon Mathewson, whom I have been collaborating on and off since 1997. - Matt Oakley

Nutmeg’s World of the Strange - Released 2023
The latest release of Nutmeg on FMA is Nutmeg’s World of the Strange album. Originally started in 1987 but shelved when Clive Masters ‘retired’ from music for a short-lived but eventful career driving an ice cream van.

Nutmeg’s World of the Strange sees the beloved folk-rockers take a long, hard look into the eye of all that is strange, dark, and mysterious. Finished in a post lockdown recording frenzy, the album is presented here in all its grim, haunting, majestic glory. It features the single Bermuda Holiday. - Nutmeg

With Nutmeg being in the realm of folk rock, Matt and Simon's second major collaboration is Dr Sparkles, which has more humor & themes in the catalog such as the album YUM! Look Back in Hunger, released in 2016, which is a history of food with Dr Sparkles.

The War on Shrugs - Released 2021
The last release of Dr Sparkles on FMA is The War on Shrugs that includes tracks such as Doing it All Right and Tickle my Pickle, which are simply nice acoustic instrumentals. - Dr Sparkles

Matt & Simon continues their collaboration journey and released another project on FMA called Modern Monster.
